The director Bong Joon Ho's movie 'Parasite' became the first non-English film to ever receive a best-picture Oscar at the 92nd Academy Awards Sunday.
The movie also took other three awards home including best original screenplay, best international feature film and best director.
In the best original screenplay section, 'Parasite' co-written by Bong and Han Jin-won, beat Noah Baumbach of 'Marriage Story', Sam Mendes of '1917', Quentin Tarantino of 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' and Rian Johnson of 'Knives Out'.
The movie's historic Oscars win brought tremendous joy to Koreans across the world and Canada was no exception.
Korean Canadians were emotional that the film propelled South Korea's movie industry into the global spotlight.
The black comedy about social and income inequality was first premiered to Canada at the 44th Toronto International Film Festival(TIFF) back in September and is still available for screenings at various Cineplex locations to this day.
