Samsung Electronics Unveils 'Galaxy Ring' for Health Management, Aiming to Revolutionize Digital Health Care with Wearables and AI

Samsung Electronics has revealed its long-anticipated smart ring, the 'Galaxy Ring', aimed at health management. The company announced plans to innovate digital health care using wearable devices and artificial intelligence (AI). During a press briefing at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 in Barcelona, Spain, Hong Park, the executive of the Digital Health team at Samsung's Mobile Experience (MX) division, stated, "The Galaxy Ring is part of our efforts to realize the vision of improving the health of billions. Through AI, cutting-edge technology, and partnerships, we aim to help more people better understand their health conditions and encourage them to make small daily changes for significant impact."

Samsung had unveiled the physical design of the Galaxy Ring at the MWC venue the day before. Some international media, after trying on the actual product, uniformly described it as "very light and comfortable, though functionality testing was not yet possible." The design, presented in black, gold, and silver, is not yet finalized.

Park introduced the Galaxy Ring as a product "designed for 24-hour comfortable wear, offering comprehensive health insights based on conveniently monitored data." He further explained that the device would feature advanced sleep tracking based on Samsung Health, along with women's health and heart health monitoring.

According to Samsung, the Galaxy Ring collects and analyzes health data such as sleep and activity levels through sensors mounted on the inner side of the ring. This data is then integrated into the customized health management platform, Samsung Health. Boasting 64 million active monthly users, Samsung Health plans to offer a personalized health management experience by adding 'Galaxy AI' technology to its extensive global data.

Samsung Health aims to quantify data for easy understanding through 'My Vitality Score' and provide helpful health advice through 'Booster Cards,' similar to Fitbit's 'Sleep Score' and Garmin's 'Body Battery.' The choice of a ring as the device form factor is expected to offer a comfortable wearing experience even during sleep, differing from the more common smartwatches and bands.

Samsung has also indicated that the Galaxy Ring will have a relatively long battery life. Noh Tae-moon, the head of Samsung's MX division, mentioned at the exhibition, "It can be used for 5-9 days without charging, allowing users to continuously monitor important health information without missing anything."
