as the third girl group to achieve this feat, following BLACKPINK and NewJeans
In a significant achievement for the K-pop industry, girl group TWICE has ascended to the top of the United States Billboard Comprehensive Album Chart, the 'Billboard 200,' nine years after their debut. This marks the eighth time a Korean musician has reached this pinnacle, and TWICE is the third girl group to accomplish this feat. The American music magazine Billboard revealed in a chart preview article on the 3rd (local time) that TWICE's 13th mini album 'With YOU-th' would top the Billboard 200 chart to be published on the 9th. The Billboard 200 ranks albums across all genres based on physical album sales, streaming, and downloads. Billboard explained that the album's sales were boosted by offering 14 types of CDs and three types of vinyl records (LPs) with random merchandise inside the album packaging.
This is the first time TWICE has achieved the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 since their debut in 2015. Their previous release, the 12th mini album 'Ready To Be,' reached as high as No. 2 in March of the previous year. Before TWICE, other Korean acts that have topped the Billboard 200 include BTS, SuperM, Stray Kids, BLACKPINK, Tomorrow X Together (TXT), NewJeans, and ATEEZ. Among Korean girl groups, TWICE follows BLACKPINK and NewJeans in achieving this record.
In the same chart, the third mini album 'EASY' by Korean girl group LE SSERAFIM recorded an eighth-place finish.
By reaching the summit of the Billboard 200, TWICE not only solidifies their position in the global music scene but also underscores the continuing rise of K-pop on the international stage.
